Merino Wool

You may have hear of wool products before and thought of them as undesirable for their scratchiness and heaviness. What you may not realize is that there are a lot of varieties of wool.

The finest variety of wool is Merino Wool. Merino wool comes from the Merino sheep in New Zealand and Australia. There are actually more sheep than people in New Zealand and Australia. The wool industry is taken very seriously because it is a main ingredient of their national gross domestic product.

The wool is actually tested under a microscope and the wool is rated in a system called the Super system. The finest wool available is the Merino wool. The fibers are so thin and soft that it is amazing.

When choosing wool products, you need to buy quality. Have you ever felt a real sheep? The wool is so soft that you will never forget it. Part of wool feeling right is that it is processed correctly. Some of the cheaper wool is simply a byproduct that is stripped off (chemically) by a sheep slaughterhouse. Other sheep are groomed specifically for fine wool clothing. The wool is sheared and taken care of carefully to ensure that the integrity is kept. If you feel the difference in the wool, you will find that the wool that is harvested properly will be much softer and feel a lot better.

When you are getting a Merino wool product, you are getting the best of what is available. It is a little more expensive, but certainly worth the added cost.
